Allergies: when does
growth potential increase?

The increased risk of developing allergies in newborns is a major public health challenge, particularly when there is a family history of allergies. If family members have a history of allergies such as eczema, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, or food allergies, then the newborn may have an increased risk of developing similar conditions.

Prevention and early treatment are critical. One of the most effective protection measures is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding offers natural antibodies and other protective factors that can help the baby's immune system develop stronger, thus reducing the risk of allergies.

If breastfeeding is not possible or if it needs to be supplemented with other milks, pediatricians often recommend the use of hydrolyzed formulas (HA), which are specially designed to reduce the risk of developing food allergies. These formulas contain proteins that have been hydrolyzed – that is, broken down into smaller pieces, which are less likely to cause an allergic reaction.

It is also important to follow your doctor's advice on the best way to feed your baby and to treat any allergies that develop. The pediatrician may also suggest introducing certain foods gradually and under supervision to watch for any allergic reactions, especially in cases where there is a family history of allergies.
