What does prematurity mean?

Prematurity refers to the birth of a newborn before the full completion of the pregnancy, i.e. before its 37th week.
Why does it happen?

The causes of prematurity are varied. Premature placental abruption, fetal developmental abnormalities, maternal diseases such as preeclampsia, and many other genetic and environmental factors.
